Meet The Horses
Trooper
Trooper is a 12 year old Saddlebred gelding that stands about 18 hands tall. He has had several careers in his short lifetime as a Saddlebred show horse and a Department of Public Safety patrol horse. Neither of these roles suited Trooper’s sensitive nature. He derives a lot of confidence from his herd mates and human partners and loves the attention he gets from ranch visitors.
Andi
Andi is a 24 year old Trakehner gelding who spent most of his career campaigning as on the hunter/jumper circuit. He is a very kind but cautious horse who clearly prefers to be with people he knows and trust. Younger horses look to Andi for his confident “been there – done that” attitude which makes him a tremendous asset to us and his herd mates.
AL
Al is a 12 year old off-the-track Thoroughbred, who came to us after retiring from the eventing circuit due to an injury. However, his career didn’t end there. He’s now a crowd favorite at the ranch, and works so well with people and veterans. We’re so grateful to have his sweet “gentle giant” nature here at the ranch!
Sahara
Sahara is a beautiful 17 year old paint mare who is the matriarch of the herd. Sahara is prized not only for her beauty but for her sensitivity and street smarts — characteristics that help our program participants hone their listening and communication skills to an expert level. She loves to be pampered and soaking in the affection of our youngest visitors.
Star
Star is an 20 year old registered AQHA mare — Ms. Royal Starlite was a prized brood mare for many years because of her top-notch cutting horse pedigree. After a herd dispersal sale, Star was rescued from a slaughter lot with her weanling filly (Renata). Star is an independent and confident horse that knows what she wants and how to get it. She’s a charmer.
Lily
Lily was donated to the ranch as a seasoned riding horse for our program participants. She is a wonderful teacher and takes very good care of people who are new to horses and riding. She is an absolute love and will live out her life as a valued member of our team.
Lady
Lady is a 12 year old off-the-track Thoroughbred who was rescued from a kill pen in Texas in early 2019. She was a broodmare for many years, before her previous owners lost track of her until she resurfaced. She’s now spending her days out at the ranch, recovering beautifully, and really learning to love “ranch life”.
Nicholas
The most important horse at the ranch is Nicholas. He is our highly opinionated, potty-trained, Brand Ambassador. In his previous career, he traveled to many nursing homes and rehabilitation centers and is a trained therapy horse. He sure loves his job, and most importantly, all the treats that come with it.
Beauty
Beauty came to us from a previous foster home that rescued her from a very serious case of animal neglect. She was almost starved to death, with a body condition of a 1 (the worst) on a scale to 5. Thankfully, her previous foster parents saved this beautiful soul, then brought her to us for a new purpose - to work with veterans and their families.
